(EstateNewsWire.com, December 24, 2012 ) Villa Rica, GA -- Steel workers in Port Talbot Wales have been told by the Prince of Wales that they can be proud of their achievement.
Prince Charles recently made a trip to Tata Steel's plant and unveiled a plaque that marked completion of the £185 project that rebuilt the blast furnace at the site.
The prince congratulated steel workers for efforts that put forth, stating: "I cannot congratulate you enough for such extraordinary levels of hard work and devotion, all things that go towards creating this remarkable furnace.
"I realize that it will become one of the most sophisticated blast furnace operations in Europe.
"From that point of view Wales can be unbelievably proud of what has been achieved here.
"The investment that has been put into this part of Wales will make an enormous difference to the whole area and the whole future."
It was 10 am. when Charles made his way to the site by way of train. He was greeted by a rendition of Emily Sande's Read All About It, performed by the Eastern Primary in Taibach.
On his tour, the Prince watched a video display of Super Bainite, which is a high value steel that is to be produced in conjunction with the Minister of Defense at Port Talbot. The steel will be provided to armored vehicles during peace-keeping and wartime missions.
The Prince also visited steel workers in the Port Talbot and Llanwern, who expect to see nearly 500 jobs lost in the next 12 months.
A Tata in Port Talbot spokesperson stated: "It will be a lengthy, responsible process.
"There will be a high level of voluntary redundancies and redeployment, we have a good track record in all of that.
"We just don't know what the order book will look like in the future. We have no plans to make any further job losses as things stand. The order book still looks very subdued.”
He added, "The business as a commercial operation is still very challenging."
