Study Shows Increases in Heat will Raise the Death Toll to over 10,000 Each Year in Great Britain reports AuraMist.com

(EstateNewsWire.com, September 16, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA - According to the latest Health Protection Agency report, the number of deaths due to unbearable heat in Great Britain could surpass by more than 10,000 each year. As a result, of the expected death toll, elderly citizens of Great Britain will need to stay indoors.

By 2080, the temperature of cities and towns in Great Britain could go up to 10-to-40C (104F) in the British capital during summer. It is possible that the heat wave could remain for several days.

Currently, around 2,000 people die each year due to heat waves. Most of them are elderly or vulnerable to heat.

According to telegraph.co.uk, the Health Protection Agency released a statement saying, "There is no doubt that climate change poses a wide range of challenges to public health in the UK. From increased risks of heatwaves, to potentially greater exposure to air pollution (indoors and outdoors), and potential changes to established pollen seasons, there are many issues. Each potential threat needs further research and attention if we are to adapt to or mitigate their effects. We are confident that this report will provide all government departments with the further information they need to properly prioritize areas for future work and protect the UK public from the significant looming health challenges that climate change presents."

Dr. David Heymann agrees that the change in climate will cause the most fatalities that mankind has ever seen. In addition, the increase in heat will bring more floods via shorelines and waterways, which will badly affect both mental and long-term health of the people residing near such areas.

In the light of this report, the Health Protection Agency has given an opinion to the Government to bring changes in infrastructure so homes and hospitals can cope with heat and emergency services.
