(EstateNewsWire.com, September 09, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA - According to officials at the State Department of Enterprise Services, cleaning of the legislative building was stopped indefinitely as one of the platforms similar to the one window washers were using gave away. The failure left behind a worker who was suspended by his lifeline 40 feet above the ground for about two minutes
The employee of Seattle-based Western Waterproofing Co. who got suspended has still not been identified; however he was pulled safely by other coworkers to the fourth floor just as the Olympia Fire Department personnel arrived to assist in the rescue.
One of the spokesman of Enterprise Services, Jim Erskine said,
“Work on the $1.148 million project will not resume until all the scaffolding and equipment involved with the work is checked, and the dozen or so employees assigned to the job go through additional safety training.” The News Tribune
The Agency spokesperson Elaine Fischer added that it has still not been determined by the state Department of Labor and industries that whether the case will be forwarded for further investigation.
Elaine also noted that company has a good record and there aren’t any reports against the company’s for workplace safety violations or violations in files for the past 10 years.
Erskine said, “Two workers in the rectangular mobile platform were preparing to pressure wash a portion of the legislative building when it gave way. The second worker was able to scramble to safety.” according to The News Tribune.
The cleaning project was expected to perform critical repairs to the building from outside and was supposed to clean the upper two thirds of the building. The project started in July and was to complete early this November.
The Capitol Dome typically is scrubbed clean every five years, but the work scheduled for 2009 was placed on hold because of the depressing state budget picture.
