These people are especially coming from rural and outback parts of Australia. According to Galvin, they are opting for a 12 week pre employment course to check themselves whether they are suitable for this profession or not. Regardless of the age, there is an increase in enrollment in cooking and baking courses , according to NSW TAFE.
Lisa Sandri, of age 32, according to news.com.au, was an IT professional and gave up that job for baking and the cooking profession that she loved. She stated that her needs weren’t being fulfilled by that job. She is now about to complete her certificate III in patisserie and is now working with Michelle Tran at the little Tarte in Mortlake.
Ms.Tran claims that most employees are of a mature age. She started this work after working in an office environment for ten years just because she loved pastries. She loves Lisa because she shows professionalism in the kitchen.
In the year 2010-11, the accommodation and food sector contributed for an increase of $29.95 billion to the Australian GDP. Service Skills Australia's Tourism Hospitality and Events Report 2012 found that younger workers are diminishing and that is affecting tourism and food industry. 45-plus workers increased to 21.8% from the year 2003 to 2010.hiring mature aged workers was the most used strategy to cope with labor shortages, according to The Deloitte Access Economics Australian Tourism Labor Force Survey.
