According to a survey by the American Pet Products Association, 72.9 million households in the U.S. are to spend an estimate of $52 billion on their pets this year. Pet industry will definitely flourish with this money. The number will be closer to $55 billion, said Arden Moore, a pet expert according to AZCentral.com.
The Pet Products Association study report stated that last year, U.S. pet owners spent more than $50 billion on animals and has been doubled since the 2000s.
According to the survey, pet owners spend $20 billion on pet food which is organic or natural food.
The U.S. food and drug administration added that the possible reason was that 100 brands of pet food consumed with vegetable proteins from China used by many cats and dogs developed kidney failure.
Moore said that this recall makes pet consumer conscious about their pet food. Weston Smith, owner of pet supply store, Pet Club said that they sell the best brands to customers which they will not find elsewhere. At Pet Club, it costs $12 for a 15.5 pound bag of Purina Baneful, less than a 15 pound bag of organic brand blue buffalo company.
Owner of a boutique in Phoenix, Joe Goldblatt, sells handmade pupcakes, ice cream and birthday cakes and says that they are a good treat for pets, containing no artificial flavoring or other harmful chemicals.
People spent more than $1000 on purchasing clothes, accessories and toys for their pets. A boutique and spa in Scottsdale opened in March of 2008. Store owner, Jackie Bacha, said that in the past two years, customer demand for pet clothes, collar and harnesses increased by manifolds. This shows the owners unconditional love for their pets.
A new trend for dying dog fur is also increasing. Pedicures, message, dying fur and nail paint and many other treatments for dogs are offered by Valley Groomers are very popular. Treatment cost between $10 to $20 and are safe for dogs.
Almost 62% of the U.S. population owns a pet. Many celebrities are indulging in marketing products to develop to support and protect animals along with the common people.
