(EstateNewsWire.com, August 24, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA -- One of John Lennon’s teeth was auctioned off last fall and now the winning bidder has announced that a fragment of that tooth will be used in a work of art. According to an article in the Edmonton Sun, that winning bidder gave a piece of Lennon’s tooth to his sister who was making a clay sculpture of Lennon.
The tooth had remained in the possession of the family of Lennon’s former housekeepers for years but was offered for auction in November of last year. Michael Zuk, an Alberta dentist, was the winning bidder for the tooth with a bid of over $32,000.00. After his auction win, Zuk suggested to his sister that she use a piece of the tooth in the Lennon sculpture that she was working on.
Kirsten Zuk, the sculptor and sister of Michael Zuk, said: “It will be like a time capsule, and the sculpture will actually contain a piece of John’s DNA.” The tooth was actually too fragile to be tested for DNA before the auction, but the Omega Auction House stated that they have no doubts regarding the tooth’s’ authenticity.
Kirsten will be displaying her sculpture of Lennon at the Edmonton Fringe Festival. She is using the sculpture to promote a charity known as Smile Train, which helps provide surgery to impoverished children who have cleft palates.
