(EstateNewsWire.com, August 23, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA -- Gardening societies along with businesses and residents who were trying to reinstate a new version of Birmingham Annual Gardening Show (Bags) at Kings Heath Park faced despair when the authorities called it off.
According to the chairman of Birmingham Annual Gardening Show (Bags), Jonathan Jaffa, this decision was made due to the wet conditions of the ground. There is even more rain in the forecast which will make the ground even wetter.
Mr. Jaffa said: "The ground is still soft from all that rainfall following the wettest summer on record and the weather forecasters are saying more rain will fall. The park is famous for becoming boggy and you need nice weather, relatively speaking, for the show to be successful."
He also added that it was feared heavy equipment such as generators, would "churn up the park". In the previous show this park got trashed due to wet conditions which raised the cost of staging this event. Due to similar reasons, the city council canceled the event last year at Kings Heath. The replacement Flower Festival organized at city centre was not attended well.
Despite all the problems, the Bags Committee will meet once again to discuss whether a few parts of the planned show, like the allotment element, can still come to pass at a different venue.
Mr. Jaffa also said that the Birmingham Annual Gardening Show plans to return to its traditional roots; the show will feature growers instead of unrelated stalls and wholesalers. A circular bus will link the show with the car park area and new village square.
The free show will take place on the weekend of September 1, replacing Gardeners' Weekend, which has been taking place for about 30 years now. Nearly 15,000 organizers and visitors attended the event earlier, but the new show seems to attract approximately five to ten thousand visitors, according to Mr. Jaffa.
All of these activities began when Kings Heath groups sent a request to the council earlier in October in which they demanded that the event should be returned to the old venue. As a result of this petition the organizations (Kings Heath Floral Trail and Centre Partnership) received a grant from the council to organize the event.
