(EstateNewsWire.com, August 22, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA -- The Hargreaves Associates, a landscape architecture firm primarily based in San Francisco, has had the honour of dealing with the landscaping of the London Olympic Village as the organisers were not satisfied with the master plan which was designed before offering the job to this renowned firm.
Hargreaves Associates put in their best efforts to design the landscaping to give it an enticing look for the visitors of Olympic Village. They were successful in their bid to satisfy the event organisers and the innumerable visitors as well.
The firm was offered the job even after the master plan was finalised and the reason was that the Olympic Delivery Authority was not satisfied with this plan because there was a huge open space in the original design which looked somewhat odd.
That is where Hargreaves Associates jumped in and they made good use of 247 acres of land by designing greenery and plazas on a major part of this open-spaced land.
George Hargreaves, the owner of Hargreaves Associates, said that the client was not satisfied with the plan they had already finalised.
He stated, “The client told us, 'We've got this product, we don't like it, we're not sure why. The buildings were set and the bridges were set, but we were able to get rid of just about everything after that.”
Hargreaves Associates made certain alterations in the master plan by working jointly with LDA Design, an English firm.
They widened the river banks and gave them a more natural look by planting vegetation in them that comprised of a wildflower meadow.
The sizes of the plazas in the master plan were bigger but Hargreaves Associates reduced those plazas to make more room for patches covered with grass.
They also constructed a wider platform alongside the River Lea to provide visitors a captivating view of the city. More than 250,000 people were able to see this panoramic view of London by standing just outside the Olympic Village.
Kieran Long, a renowned architecture critic who writes for the Evening Standard, appreciated the landscaping of Olympic Village. “The real star of the Olympic site is the landscape design. It's simply beautiful,” he wrote.
