No leniency on shop shutter rules despite recent London Riots reports GotchaShutters.com.au

(EstateNewsWire.com, August 21, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA -- The streets of England became victim to looting and vandalism in August of 2011. Since the streets of England were shocked by those riots last year, the Department of Communities and Local Government consulted to make the rules for the shop shutters harder.

Government consultation has asked if it was necessary for the shops to ask approval before they could install security shutters.

When the parliament was called in response to the riots last year, the Prime Minister suggested many ideas and one of these were to ease the shop shutter rules a little. David Cameron told MP that he realizes how difficult it can be for owners of the shop to put up protective shutters.

A government spokesperson said, “Police and councils advised that relaxing these rules could have the opposite effect and increase crime and anti-social behavior by giving High Streets the appearance of being under siege."

However, the Association Of Convenience Stores did not totally agree with it. A spokesperson of ACS had this to say, “This would require councils to be creative, talk to local retailers and respond to their needs. That is not something they're renowned for,"

The government is willing to share the loss for the victims. The Department Of Local Government is ready to offer funds to the affected areas; they will be using the High Street Funds and in London the Mayor’s Regeneration funds for that.

The shopkeepers in London and in England feel that it should be their own decision how they want to keep their shops safe. They want the government to let the shop owners decide on their own what they want for the security measurements of their shops.

One of the affected of the last year riots in East London, Siva Kandiah, said, “They should leave it up to us to decide what we need to keep our shops safe."
