Check appliances in the home that have LCD displays. Even when the appliance is not on, it will use some power. This is called phantom energy use. Unplug these appliance when not in use. One would be amazed how much they can save on the electric bill by doing this.
One should always read the instruction manual that came with the appliance and make sure that it is being used and maintained according to the manufacturers specifications.
