(EMAILWIRE.COM, September 26, 2007 ) CHARLESTON, SC -- “The Death of Michael Smith”, a thriller involving three men all named Michael Smith, is a suspenseful, murder mystery. Screenwriter and director Daniel Casey, age 25, takes the viewer on a journey filled with suspenseful moments mixed with pleasurable laughs. Casey became interested in film at a young age. He strived to mold his filmmaking skills.“I've been in filmmaking for as long as I can remember. I was stop-animating my ninja turtles at five years old,” Casey said. “I made my first feature at the age of 16 on deck-to-deck video. It's just something that I've always done.” Casey’s writing is often inspired by the works of Terrence Malick, David Gordon Green and Alejandro Innaritu. The idea for “The Death of Michael Smith” arose from the desire to tell an endearing story that worked in a professional capacity. The film showcases three men, who share more than just a name; they share a connection without ever meeting each other. Casey believes making films where people can connect to the subject matter, beyond the screen, is a top priority.“I guess I'll just say that I'm in love with making films that people enjoy,” Casey says. “If I'm able to reach a place where I can do that and have a roof over my head, I'll be extremely happy.”With the struggles and hardships young filmmakers must overcome, Casey believes making it in the film industry can be a variety of things.“While I'd love to have a highly popular career, I think that I'd be content just being able to continue making films where I feel emotionally connected to the subject matter,” Casey explains. The Death of Michael Smith is available through Atlas Worldwide Syndications and Distributions. A screening of the film will take place during the American Film Market in Santa Monica, California on November 1st at 7:00p.m. About Atlas Worldwide Syndications & Distributions: Atlas Worldwide is a dedicated company that offers television marketing and distribution services to our clients.
