(EMAILWIRE.COM, May 20, 2012 ) Miller Place, NY—Doing some simple preventative maintenance on appliances will help to stop early appliance break downs from happening. There is nothing more frustrating then to find out after paying a service call that this was something that didn’t need to happen.

Bob Dougherty, owner of Fleet Appliance Service likes to pass on as much helpful information to area residents and businesses as he can.
Here are a few tips for cleaning the kitchen stovetop:
When cleaning the stove start by taking off the grates, knobs and burner covers. Place them in the sink with a mild soap, and some vinegar and let them soak while the top is wiped down. Wipe the stove top down to remove any lose dirt and then wash the whole surface with hot soapy water. If the stovetop is really greasy then one may want to try a commercial degreasing product. Make sure to follow the directions on the product. Then wash the whole surface with hot, soapy water using a good dish detergent.
Finish washing the knobs, grates and burner covers and replace. Finally don’t forget to wash down the front and sides of the stove to get off any grease or spills.
Things to Avoid when cleaning a kitchen stovetop:
.
· Make sure not to use abrasive cleaners on the stovetop, these cleaners could scratch and damage the surface.
· Only use a lightly damp cloth to wipe down the electronic area that shows the clock and settings.
· If the stove is gas, be careful around the gas ports. It is possible to wipe cleaning solution, dirt or grease into the port causing it to clog. If this does happen then use a toothpick to clean the opening before turning it on.
