Groton Dryer Vent Cleaning Wizard Spots Fire Hazard and Replaces Faulty Dryer Vent System

(EMAILWIRE.COM, March 15, 2012 ) Groton, CT – Area residents rely on the Groton Dryer Vent Cleaning Wizard to make their clothes dryers operate safely and efficiently. Failure to clean dryer vents is the number one cause of dryer fires, but poorly installed systems can also be dangerous. Dryer vent installation should be performed by a qualified dryer exhaust technician that understands the purpose and function of a dryer vent system. As forced heat produced by gas or electricity is blown on tumbling laundry, the hot, moist air must be able to escape in order for clothes to get dry.

An improperly installed dryer vent system can restrict airflow and cause a dryer to work harder, consume more energy, and eventually break down or cause a fire. Systems made of vinyl or plastic should be replaced with solid metal venting for safety and efficiency.

Don Brusseau, owner of Dryer Vent Wizard, installs dryer vent systems according to current building and safety codes. “The dryer vent pipe should be made of rigid material, 4 inches in diameter,” said Brusseau. “The flexible foil or vinyl tubing is not designed to withstand the heat of a clothes dryer.”

The Groton Dryer Vent Cleaning Wizard finds problems with 9 out of 10 dryer vent systems he inspects. Some of the common mistakes DIY homeowners make include:

Sections of duct work connected with screws: Sections of ductwork should be joined with foil tape, not screws that protrude to the inside and catch lint.

Dryers vented to the attic or crawl space: Gas dryers must be vented outdoors to prevent carbon monoxide from entering the home.

Too many bends and the dryer duct is too long: The longer the dryer duct, the harder the dryer works to force the hot air to the vent outside.

Poorly supported dryer duct: Use straps to support the duct so that there are no low points for lint to collect and build up. Use a level to set horizontal sections with a slight fall to prevent moisture from collecting.

Don Brusseau is a certified dryer exhaust specialist who takes pride in making clothes dryers safer and greener while educating his customers. Don is confident that his services are making a difference for consumers in his market area. Visit http://dryerventcleaningnewlondon.blogspot.com/ to learn more.
