(EMAILWIRE.COM, December 09, 2011 ) Novi, MI – When the Novi handyman was invited to speak at a local landlord’s association meeting, he covered several topics. One property manager asked how the new lead base paint law affected homeowners, property managers and handyman services.
Keith explained, “As of April 22, 2010, federal law requires all contractors and handyman services who work in homes, child care facilities and schools with lead base paint become certified in providing a lead-safe work environment.”
The EPA law is called the Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule (LRRP) and was was enacted in 2008. Contractors and handyman services are required to provide homeowners certain information before work begins in their home on six square feet or more of interior painting or more than twenty square feet of exterior painting. The law is intended to protect homeowners, property managers and residents from hazards associated with lead paint.
Novi MI Handyman Service contractors warn residents that lead-based paint can be dangerous and pose serious health concerns for children if not properly contained during renovations. The rule requires contractors and handyman services to become trained and certified as lead safe by the EPA. They must take an 8-hour course offered by private training providers to become a certified renovator.
