Recent News on Deutsche Bank (NYSE: DB)
Germany's Deutsche Bank AG (DB) Tuesday said its EUR300 million fund to finance small and middle-sized German companies will be launched in the first quarter.
The fund is focused on the small and medium-sized "mittelstand" firms that make up the backbone of Germany's industrial economy. For months, bankers, regulators and politicians have debated the existence of a credit crunch in Germany as mittelstand companies find it harder to line up loans in the wake of the financial crisis. "It is important to us to be on the market as quickly as possible so that we can support the mittelstand promptly," said Juergen Fitschen, a member of Deutsche Bank's management board.
Deutsche Bank's Chief Executive Josef Ackermann suggested the creation of a mittelstand fund late last year, but has been criticized for its slow launch.
The fund will provide equity capital in EUR2 million to EUR10 million tranches for mittelstand companies over a seven year term with the intention of improving their credit rating and access to credit. The fund is intended for companies with up to EUR100 million in annual revenue.
"By strengthening a company's equity capital base, its credit rating is improved and its financing scope is widened," Fitschen said
