According to Russo over 95% of granite countertop fabricators are still cutting and shaping the stone by hand. hand. One reason for this is that the high-tech, automated equipment is very expensive. “We believe our investment in the equipment was well worth the cost because it allows us to provide high-quality work with a fast turn-around time to guarantee customer satisfaction and price assurance,” said Russo.
Surface Encounters invests in the equipment where other companies are paying employees to hand cut and finish the edges of granite countertops. This takes a lot of time; therefore, creating payroll cost and allowing imperfections. No matter how experienced the technician is, a perfect cut and finish is impossible to attain with human beings and hand tools.
The additional employees will be added for two purposes. Surface Encounters will open one more showroom outlet in 2010; and, secondly, as demand continues to increase, so will the number of equipment operators.
Surface Encounters is able to manufacture granite countertops quicker than the average company without errors and imperfections. They save money on labor costs; therefore, they are able to pass the savings onto the customer.
