Recent News on Visa Inc. (NYSE: V)
Shares of Visa Inc. rose 4% in premarket trading Monday, gaining on the payment processor's impending inclusion in the widely followed S&P 500 Index, while an analyst upgrade also spurred the stock.
Late Friday, Standard & Poor's said Visa (V 86.14, +1.37, +1.62%) and four other stocks will be added to the venerable benchmark after the close of trading on Dec. 18.

Companies often see their shares get a lift when the index committee says it will put the stock in the S&P 500(SPX 1,108, -6.18, -0.55%). Index-fund managers must buy the stock to keep pace with the barometer.
"We estimate that S&P 500 index funds account for about 11.4% of the float-adjusted capitalization of the S&P 500 Index," wrote Keefe Bruyette & Woods analyst Melissa Roberts in a research note on Monday.
"Therefore, we estimate that about 51.3 million shares of Visa will need to be bought by S&P 500 index funds," the analyst said. "Visa's one-month average daily trading volume is about 4 million shares, implying about 13 days of buying volume."
