Temperature Alarms and Foam Spray for Pipes Can Help Save Homeowners reports Emergency Plumbers Grimsby

(EstateNewsWire.com, January 30, 2013 ) England, U.K -- The recent intensive freezing, as temperatures consistently stay below the frozen mark, have turned many people's water pipes into ice. If one is not careful, that can turn into major problems as the ice starts to thaw.

There are alarms that can be used to alert individuals of a pipe leak, or if a pipe is about to freeze. The alarms work much like a fire alarm, and according to Gret Yoder, owner of Lafayette's Hi-Tech Heating and Cooling, the alarms could save customers thousands in water damage.

"I've spent a couple days going through and fixing water damage," Yoder said. "You get one fix, you turn it on, and you get a leak somewhere else."

Yoder stated that this is the time he usually spends responding to, not only frozen pipes, but also the large messes that stem from the newly thawed pipes. The frozen water often causes the pipes to expand, and that makes for a perfect opportunity for the pipes to leak or bursts.

Yoder points out that there are quite a few options for persons to avoid a mess. For a couple of hundred dollars a customer can avoid the problems by having alarms installed. One such alarm detects leaks, while another alarm will alert individuals if a house temperature drops lowe enough to be of concern.

"The basement looked like a swimming pool," Yoder said about a burst pipe he worked a decade ago. "The heat was off. It was like a $150,000 claim. It all could've been prevented with [the alarms] because you know in minutes."

That particular burst pipe allowed over 400,000 gallons of water to absolutely ruin a West Lafayette home. Yoder then allowed a news crew in to see how a professional protect his own home. Spray-on foam was used to protect his walls and pipes, and he had temperature detecting alarms within his house.

"It's set on 95 for the high in the summertime, and 45 for low in the winter time," Yoder said.
