Cold Affecting Pipes Across Nevada and Tahoe Areas reports Emergency Plumbers Exeter

General Manager of the Larkin Plumbing company, Mark Larkin, stated that his technicians have responded to frozen pipe and free-related problems almost exclusively in recent weeks.

"We went through about 200 pressure vacuum breakers yesterday," Larkin said. "Normally, we'll go through 30 in a whole year."

The pressure breakers are the smallest valves that prevent the hazardous water from finding its way into drinking water. When that small plastic piece freezes up in the cold, it blocks the flow of water into pipes. A typical repair for the repair will usually run a customer between $200 and $400, according to Larkin. Unfortunately for those who experience such a break, insurance does not always cover the common freezing problem.

"The same thing happens every time it gets to these temperatures, and people just forget to wrap their pipes," said Victoria Graham of Done Right Plumbing. "I don't think people realize that we get this cold."

Larkin noted that his trucks had been running almost non-stop in the recent hard freezing weather, and that it was not likely to slow down soon, as problems with freezing-related issues occur both during the freeze and immediately following.

"We've seen some retirement centers shut down. Some businesses have had to close because they were not prepared," Larkin said.

Technicians have had to respond to ranches, as well as animal shelters, where freezing has impeded on stocks ability to get to necessary water. Ron Hanna, who works for Done Right Plumbing, stated "I've had to work on six different houses today. It's been really busy."

The Associated Press reported recently that casinos in the Lake Tahoe area had pipes bursting, causing moderate-to-severe water damage and flooded floors in the gambling area.
