(EstateNewsWire.com, December 24, 2012 ) Conyers, GA -- Loxdale Primary School on Chapel St. in Bilston, West Midlands was burglarized Sunday night. The burglars stripped the plumbing of the school, which then caused the entire school to flood, forcing officials to close it for repairs until January 7th.
According to the report, the burglars snuck into the school under cover of darkness and stole piping that held the plumbing together, as well as roof tiling. The resulting flood inundated offices, classrooms, and all of the hallways, which will take weeks to clean out, not to mention the replacement of the piping.
The damages will not only affect the scheduled Christmas Party, which has now been moved to a nearby church hall, but also the learning schedule of the lesson plans given by the teachers. According to PC Carole Wiggins, of West Midlands Police, the burglars showed, “Complete disregard for the consequences of their actions.”
“Hundreds of children have had their education disrupted by these thieves, who were thinking about nothing more than their own financial gain,” she said.
A teacher at the school, Trish Scott, added, “We are really sorry to inform parents that, due to the extent of the damage, the school will unfortunately need to remain closed until after the Christmas break. We’ll be working hard over the next few weeks to get the repairs carried out as soon as possible and we’re hopeful they will be completed in time for pupils to return to the school on January 7th.”
While the teachers and the community at large are outraged by the burglary and the insensitivity to the institution of learning, the students will surely be happy to have an extended break. No school for a couple more weeks will not hurt in the long run, but may be a bit of a burden for working parents who rely on school as a sort of protection for their kids during the day.
