(EstateNewsWire.com, December 13, 2012 ) Avon IN The Avon Dryer Vent Cleaning Wizard enjoys making a difference in his community by providing an important home service while educating consumers. The Wizard tells his customers about the warning signs of blocked air flow which make a dryer work less efficiently. The worse the problem becomes, the more potential there is for a dryer fire.
In addition to educating customers about their dryer vent system, the Wizard is providing holiday safety tips as well. The number of residential fires increases during the holiday season. Firefighters expect to be called to the scene of at least one home fire on Christmas Day.
Glen Mayfield, owner of Dryer Vent Wizard (http://www.avonin.dryerventcleaningnow.com/) would like to see local firefighters enjoy the holiday with their families. Each year between Thanksgiving and New Years Day, firefighters are called to respond when people are enjoying festivities and not paying attention in the kitchen. Cooking accidents are common during the holiday season.
Overloading electrical outlets or using frayed extension cords are another cause of home fires with everyone anxious to try out their new electronic toys.
Over 80 percent of home fires are caused by heating devices. Never refill kerosene heaters while inside the home and avoid using extension cords with electric heaters, especially if they are old and frayed. Store kerosene outside of the home and away from heat sources as the fumes can be ignited by something as simple as a light bulb.
Heaters are not clothes dryers! Do not put wet clothing on or near heaters. Do not put the heater too close to any objects that can catch on fire.
Dryer vent cleaning is important appliance maintenance, all year around. Have the dryer vent system professionally installed by a dryer exhaust specialist and have dryer vent cleaning performed regularly to prevent dryer fires and improve dryer performance.
Never leave the house or go to sleep with the dryer running. This goes for space heaters and Christmas tree lights as well. Here are some more tips to prevent fires during the holiday season:
Use only non-combustible or flame-resistant holiday decorations
Never use lighted candles near the tree and be sure to extinguish them before leaving home or going to sleep
Make sure live trees are fresh and keep them watered
Do not place the tree where it blocks an exit
Use lights for their intended purpose, indoor/outdoor
Check all lights for broken sockets or frayed wires.
Replace burned-out bulbs with the correct wattage
Do not use electric lights on a metallic tree
