(EstateNewsWire.com, November 29, 2012 ) Charlotte, NC -- The Cherry neighborhood is one of the oldest surviving African American residential areas in Charlotte, North Carolina. Neighboring the affluent Myers Park suburb, Cherry was originally thought to have been founded to house the servants working in Myers Park, however, it was developed in 1891 as part of the cotton farm owned by wealthy landowners John and Mary Myers. Over time, the historic Charlotte neighborhood was known for its tree-lined streets and bungalow style homes that provided working class African Americans the opportunity to own their own homes. Cherry was also known for its school, churches and park. That park was recently beautified by a local company, Forrest Fence, who installed an Ameristar steel ornamental fence for its 1200ft perimeter.
