(EstateNewsWire.com, November 25, 2012 ) Austin, TX -- A number of unique rugs and carpets, along with other unique trinkets, most of which depict something local about Vancouver, British Columbia, will be sold to the general public following a special unveiling at the 2nd Century Rig Company.
The sale is being held in conjunction with the Museum of Vancouver. Due to space constraints at the museum, approximately only 7,000 artifacts (out of a potential 70,000) can be displayed at a time.
As a result, the museum is working with 2nd Century to offer some of the items to the public.
Some of the unique items that will be available include an eight-foot-by-10-foot handcrafted wool carpet that features a map of the city of Vancouver from around 1935 as the focal point. That image was taken from a map published by the Automobile Club of Vancouver around that time.
Amanda McCuaig, Museum of Vancouver’s marketing officer, said the museum tests the public’s demand for memorabilia by using outlets like 2nd Century.
"We've already seen a great response to it," said McCuaig.
Some items are already for sale, such as magnets and keychains that depict several local historic neon signs, such as the Smilin' Buddha Cabaret. Other items for sale include beer glasses, drink coaster, pillows, and T-shirts.
The least expensive of the tapestries available is called the “Streetcar Scroll,” which features a sign that listed destinations along the No. 18 route featuring scenes from 1891. The rug, which measures 30 inches by 96 inches, can be purchased for $1,850.
The Map of Metro Vancouver carpet is among the top-dollar items available, listing for $6,900, the same as a bus scroll of the Oakridge bus line.
The sale even has a controversial piece for sale. A rug called "Riot Board - Love" features a board used to cover up windows smashed during the 2011 Stanley Cup riot.
2nd Century’s Harvey Burritt knows the rug is controversial.
"It's edgy. We know that," Burritt said. "It's like street poetry. Somebody might like that. We're very proud of it. It's very cool."

Some of the proceeds from the initiative sale will go to the Museum of Vancouver’s special exhibitions and programs for schools.
