(EstateNewsWire.com, November 25, 2012 ) Austin, TX -- Numerous valuable carpets will be auctioned off by the Saffronart Auction House on Nov. 27-28, 2012, the second such auction of carpets, rugs, and textiles to be held this year. Among the items to be auctioned at Saffronart’s location in Kolkata, India, is a number of Persian rugs, as well as several period shawls from Kashmir. One of the carpets up for bid is a Persian Dabeer Kashan carpet, which was originally created in the first part of the 20th century. The carpet, which has a gorgeous pattern of vines and flowers in bloom, which form an intricate arabesque, on a field of bright red with borders that are paisley blue on the corners with small flowers along the edges. The carpet is estimated to be worth between $48,000 and $52,000. Also up for bid is large carpet from Agra that has an orange palette and a patchwork flowers encased in a dual trellis. A unique feature of this handmade carpet is that has the fringes on the longer edges rather than the shorter sides. This carpet has been estimated to be worth between $9,135 and $11,060. A large Tabriz carpet from the Tabriz in Northwest Iran is also part of the auction. This region is noteworthy for intricate carpets with beautiful floral patterns. This particular carpet, which features a hunting scene, features an array of beige and copper tones. Other carpets that are part of the auction include a purple carpet from Khotan and a Caucasian Kazak carpet. A number of vintage shawls are also part of the bidding catalog, including a number of shawls from Kashmir, such as Kani shawls, embroidered shawls known as “Dorukha,” along with a number of hand-embroidered shawls.
