(EstateNewsWire.com, November 25, 2012 ) San Antonio, TX -- New information is beginning to crop up from various studies that indicate how one’s surroundings makes them feels can also affect their fitness levels as well as general mood and health. A study conducted by the American Institute of Architects (AIA), is noting a growing trend of ‘active design.’ Executive Director of AIA’s New York Chapter, Rick Bell, stated that architects and designers are specifically seeking to meet the physical health needs of inhabitants. These designers look for ways to promote positive lifestyle choices, even in the most sedentary of jobs. “How do you get people moving?” Bell asks. “If exercise and everyday activity is the mantra, how do you, through design, get people to exercise? There is a direct relation between the built environment and people’s lifestyles.” The new trend may be seen as an extension of the U.S. fitness craze, but active design has an important part of the agenda of the Australian designers and healthcare promoters. A recent Heart Foundation campaign ‘Active By Design’ had aided in the promotion of ‘supportive environments that encourage persons of all ages and capacities to be active in their neighborhoods, cities, and towns is integral to increasing physical activity levels.’ The Heart Foundation hopes to promote the correlation between design and fitness and well-being. The basic concept is to allow an atmosphere where individuals can feel comfortable and capable of being active, regardless of the sedentary nature of their work/efforts.
Simple design concepts such as promoting use of stairwells somewhere more prominent, rather than in dingy corners. Creating a workspace flow that promotes the interaction and activity-oriented commit action is another simple concept that can help individuals avoid being wholly still throughout their workday. The active designs have been gaining acclaim in promoting health; however, designers into a difficult territory when dealing with an inherent paternalism. The active-based workspaces can be taken as problematic for those who cannot be active for medical reasons or based on physical incapability. Such workspaces must still walk the line of being accessible for all, while promoting the activity of those who can do so. About Interior Designer:
