(EstateNewsWire.com, November 25, 2012 ) San Antonio, TX -- After replacing the MacDonald cafeteria just a few years ago, it was time that the Interior Design lab got its own renovation.
The Office of Capital Planning has finally approved the design of a new remodeling plan for the University’s interior design lab, which has students and faculty excited. For upperclassmen who have dealt with the current conditions since the start are ecstatic that they will finally be able to work in a place that reflects their work as students. For faculty, the renovation comes as a huge boost with many saying that the old, boring look of the lab has inhibited recruitment of students to the University, especially with the surrounding programs of Ohio State, Kent, and Miami of Ohio, all of whom have excellent reputations.
According to students, the redesign of the Interior Design lab is ironic, but needed. Students say that in order to create ideas, think outside the box, and better learning, you need a space that encourages such. A dull, out-of-date space like the one that exists now is not ideal, and should instantly increase the quality and reputation of the school. Branding is important and having a dedicated space to the brand is just as important.
The redesign will consist of a complete change of the layout as well as the addition of computer work stations and areas for students to present and critique each others ideas. There will also be an addition of a kitchen and a lounge, which as silly as it may sound, students say will be a huge benefit because it is being around other students that inspires new design. The remodeling will be used as a key recruitment tool for interested students and hopefully give them a leg up on the competition.
Debra Zappitelli, Program coordinator for the Interior Design school, said, “We have been able to shape the space rather than the space shape us. And that is what design is all about.”
