(EstateNewsWire.com, November 16, 2012 ) ROHNERT PARK, CA — Rohnert Park landscaper DK Landscaping presented the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Sonoma County—Rohnert Park with a generous donation of $600 on Nov. 13. Just as importantly, the Sonoma County yard management company renewed its year-long commitment of free yard maintenance, continuing its financial and in-kind sponsorship of the Club.
“Their generosity is amazing,” says Micki Jones, Club director. “They just do it out of the goodness of their heart. It’s so heartwarming to have such a relationship with a local business. You can tell (David Lee, president of DK Landscaping) he really cares about the community,” Jones said. “Our mission is affecting kids and their lives. We can’t do it alone.”
Last April, Lee made a commitment to provide initial landscaping, weekly maintenance, and $25 to the Club for each new Sonoma County landscape maintenance account he got through the end of this year. He extended his promise through 2013.
The initial landscaping work was no small task. A massive amount of pruning, shaping shrubs, cleaning up debris, digging out weeds, and cutting away dead plants was needed. When it was done, everyone noticed.
At the Boys & Girls Club, kids engage in fun learning activities, learning life skills in the process. “We teach them to make good
choices,” says Jones. “In taking care of the garden, they learn to take care of themselves. And when they see people like the Lees offering their skills and talents for the good of the community, they learn that you can make a difference and effect change.”
