(EMAILWIRE.COM, January 11, 2008 ) Suwannee, GA – Most internet marketers have questions about your customer list. They are concerned about deliverability rates and accusations of email spamming.
Many of these common questions and concerns are as follows:
Question #1: If the List Opt program gives the option to capture last name, should it be kept on file? Marketers donÂ’t need a last name when capturing personal information because a first name makes messages more personal. A last name is only necessary when customers want to make a purchase. Marketers should keep info on file as long as they need to send something to their customers.
Question #2: How do marketers know if they have been accused of email spamming? The hosting company will get an email regarding the IP address with respect to spamming. They should never buy names from lists because this is spamming!
Question #3: What do they do if they are accused of spamming? Unfortunately, the Spam Cop won't tell who accused them. They can't find out what really happened or who accused them and why, so they will have to prove they obtained their email legitimately with the first name, last name, IP address, email address, and time date stamp of when their customer opted into their list.
Question #4: They have a great deal of undeliverable mail each day. Are these emails being stopped by SPAM filters? Remember, List Opt will provide info about the quantity, NOT quality of email addresses. (70% junk, 30% good). However, List Opt is still worth it because it is cheap and marketers still have 30% good emails so they can expect a lot of undeliverable emails from List Opt and World Wide List accounts.
Question #5: How can marketers avoid adding bad email addresses on their customer list? One option is to block emails from certain domains in List Opt and World Wide List. For example, they can specify that hotmail addresses that try to sign up through their World Wide List program will automatically be rejected. Plus, they can not control people who just want to view the website content, but don't actually want to be on their list, as they will put in fake emails.
Question #6: Is there a tool to automate the editing of an email list? They have to go through their email list manually. They should hire someone to do this if they don't have time; they should clean up their list once a month or once every six months.
Question #7: What is a good deliverability rate? Anywhere in the 90's for the deliverability rate is very good. Anyone that claims a 99% deliverability rate is full of baloney. This is impossible because people make up email addresses, use fake accounts, etc. Nobody can guarantee a 99% deliverability rates.
