Bar in Belfast Serves Rum Drinks for Nearly $700 Apiece reports BarStool Megastore

Those who attend the bar at Bill Wosley’s luxury Cathedral Quarter hotel also has a bottle of Appleton Estate 50-year-old Jamaican Independence Reserve rum. That rum is the world’s oldest barrel-aged rum.

The rum was barreled in 1962 during the celebration of Jamaica’s independence from the UK. The drink costs thousands to buy, and is used to create 20 “Old Fashioned” cocktails.
The special rum in any of the cocktails will set a patron back at least $600. Such a drink would include the Appleton 50, cane syrup, aromatic bitters, orange zest served over ice, and gold leaves frozen within in.

If one were to be both adventurous and a fool, he or she could buy a round for 20 good friends for a total of nearly $15,000.

The manager of The Bar, which is located in The Merchant, stated that it is the only bar in Ireland and one of a select few in all of the UK to have the rare bottle. “We ordered it six months ago and got it in last week direct from Jamaica,” Chris said.

“No other bar in Ireland will have it and I think just the Savoy and the Dorchester in London will have it.

“Only 800 bottles of the rum have been made available for sale around the world,” He said. “The rest will be in private collections around the world.

The rum creation is still not the most expensive in the world. In 2007, Merchant’s $1,100 Trader Vic’s Mai Tai held the title. That was, until the Salvatore’s Legacy, sold at the Salvatore’s Bar in London, was sold for $11,000 on October 11.
