(EstateNewsWire.com, November 14, 2012 ) San Antonio, TX -- Worried that he might lose ownership of his mock Tudor home in Claygate, Surrey due to a court case, Saad al-Hilli, 50, changed the locks on his home before traveling to Annecy.
Mr. al-Hilli lived in the home with his wife Ikbal, and their two children Zeena and Zainab.
He told friends that he feared having to sell the home because of the case. Saad’s father died a year earlier and supposedly solicitors had been trying to resolve a tricky dispute between Mr. al-Hilli and his brother Zaid over property inheritance.
According to a family friend, Saad claimed his brother had sacked his solicitor and there was no longer any communication between the brothers. "Since I have known Saad, the only problem in his life is this recent disagreement with this brother," the family friend told a BBC radio documentary.
The brother has been interviewed by police as a witness and stills denies that there was a dispute.
Saad al-Hilli and his wife were gunned down near Lake Annecy on the fifth of September. Mrs. al-Hilli's mother and a French cyclist, Sylvain Mollier, were also killed in the shooting.
The alleged inheritance dispute brings new light to the investigation and bank accounts linked to the family have been frozen.
The Swiss newspaper Tribune de Geneve reported that Mr. al-Hilli had travelled to Geneva shortly before he was murdered, to a location less than an hour from where the family was camping. al-Hilli’s trip to Geneva suggest there was a financial motive for the attack, though French police are still putting together the pieces regarding the family's movements since arriving in France. Up to 650 people had already been questioned in the case.
The police are in the process of issuing an appeal for information based on telephone calls, but have experienced delays.
