New York has Array of Tax Liens on Businesses with over 70,000 reports Wallace & Associates

(EstateNewsWire.com, October 20, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- The IRS reportedly has around 70,000 tax liens against New York state businesses. The liens range from $92.3 million owed by Knatten Inc. to a 15 cent unpaid lien on Expo Design Center in Ozone Park, according to public records.

Any company caught in the net, including medical practice of surgeons, firms of fashion designers, and top New York Lobbying firms, are having their information looked over thoroughly by the IRS. This information was obtained through the Freedom of Information Act request.

The government will collect on most, if not all, the debts. Such debts include the $12.7 million owed by PanAm airline, which has not been in service for some time.

Knatten owed one of the largest sums, despite it also being out of business.

Patricia Lynch Associates owed $1.3 million for 2009 and 2010 taxes. It was fined $500,000 in 2010 by the attorney general. The firm is currently under a payment agreement with the IRS, according to spokesperson Darren Dopp said.

Dr. Jacob Rozbruch, head of general orthopedics at Beth Israel hospital owed nearly $100,000.

Eva Scrivo, a former hair stylist for Martha stewart, has a $63,767 lien. Her husband stated the lien was on a Hudson Street salon, which closed in 2009, and the firm disputed $11,000 in penalties levied.

Al Sharpton was also caught in the tax net, as his National Action Network reportedly owed $1.4 million.

A spokesperson for the group stated that the group does not believe it owes more than $1 million.

“Since 2009, NAN has been in the process of resolving all of its disputed back taxes and is currently in the final stages of attempting to conclude remaining debt to remove any liens,” said the spokeswoman, Rachel Noerdlinger.

Tracey Feith was a clothing designer for First Lady Michelle Obama; however, the company was late on paying taxes, and owes near $70,000.

“I don’t know anything about it,” he told The Post. “I’m going to have to call my bookkeeper.”

Numerous restaurants have also failed to pay their fair share of taxes, including the now extinct Terrace in the Sky. Morningside Heights Restaurant Corporation, who ran the restaurant, has liens totaling $874,295.
