(EstateNewsWire.com, October 20, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- The Oakland A’s announced on Thursday that they will be removing the tarps that loom over the O.co Coliseum. Such a plan will only be followed if the team can advance to the American League Championship Series. This decision is sure to win over the team’s fans.
They decided that they will be unable to remove all of the tarps at once, and that just the tarps on the west side of the third deck will be removed.
A group has formed creating a “remove the tarps campaign” that has been gaining force along with the Athletics’ come back wins. There is even a website that has been created specifically for this signature gathering.
The team has decided to keep the tarps in place for the current series; but stated that if the A’s do advance, those seats will finally see the light of day once again. The number of seats that would open once the tarps have been unveiled will accommodate an added 11,698 fans.
As the campaign remained heated by A’s fans, the decision to remove the tarps seemed to be solely financial based. The team stated that “based on increasing ticket sales after each post-season game and ticket sales projections for the ALCS, the A’s have opened 11,698 new seats.”
As said by A’s owner Lew Wolff, “This has been a sensational year for the Athletics and for our fans. We are thrilled with the tremendous outpouring of fan support.”
With the removal of the tarps, the increase of additional seats will raise the O.co total capacity to 47,505 seats. And though it seems quite apparent, the A’s have agreed to keep the tarps off for the entirety of post-season.
