(EstateNewsWire.com, October 22, 2012 ) Rock Hill MO – A local granite countertop fabricator enjoys sharing the story about the journey of granite from quarry to home. While most appreciate the appearance of granite countertops, few people know the process of bringing granite into the home or business.
Granite countertops are trending as one of the most desirable surfaces one can have installed in the home. The local granite countertop fabricator explains that whether building a new home or remodeling an existing home, most people choose granite countertops for their look of prestige and elegance.
Consumers who visit the Surface Encounters (http://www.halfoffgranite.com/) showroom enjoy learning from the leading granite countertop fabricator who shares information about the granite excavating and manufacturing process.
The first step for the granite countertop fabricator is locating a supply of high quality granite. Geologists prospect for granite by conducting core samples in the earth to locate rock formations where granite exists. Granite mines exist around the world; with granite being plentiful in the US. The majority of these mines are in the eastern part of the United States.
Once granite is found the operation to extract it from the ground begins. Large excavating machines are brought to the site and a quarry is built to hold the granite blocks while miners attempt to extract the hard granite from the earth. The granite is then removed from the earth with large saws and massive drilling rigs which cut the granite into large blocks. The blocks of granite are cut and removed in a uniform shape which is important when transporting them to the granite countertop fabricator.
Once excavated and taken to the quarry the granite is sorted by color and transported to a processing plant. At the processing plant the granite blocks which will become granite countertops are again sorted for imperfections, such as foreign material or stress cracks. Once inspected the stone is sent to the granite countertop fabricator for creating fine kitchen and bathroom surfaces.
Granite is one of the hardest rocks extracted for construction purposes and the only type of cutting edge that will cut the hard stone is a diamond blade or a granite blade designed for cutting such a large block. Large saws designed for this processing cut the granite into long pieces of 2 to 3 inches in thickness each.
At this point the granite is ready for order to be finished into custom kitchen countertops by Surface Encounters. Customers are given the color options available and when they have selected a color an order will be placed to the processing plant for the amount of material needed.
When the granite arrives to the contractor there is still additional work to be done. The granite countertop fabricator must measure the counter space and cut the granite to fit the homeowner’s specifications. When the contractor has finished cutting and polishing the granite countertop it may then be installed in one’s home.
Granite countertops, once installed in one’s home, will add value to the structure and provide years and years of pleasure, but the journey the stone takes from the earth to one’s home is an arduous one. Visit http://www.granitecountertopsrockhillmo.com/ to learn more.
