(EMAILWIRE.COM, July 28, 2009 ) Washington, D.C. - On Tuesday, the first joint meeting of the U.S.-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue, hosted by Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, will conclude in Washington, D.C. The Dialogue is focused on addressing the challenges and opportunities that both countries face on a wide range of bilateral, regional and global areas of immediate and long-term strategic and economic interests. This first meeting of the Dialogue will also set the stage for intensive, ongoing and future bilateral cooperative mechanisms.
In the morning, Secretary Geithner will make remarks at the Economic Track Opening Session at the Treasury Department. He will be joined by his Chinese counterpart Vice Premier Wang Qishan who will also make remarks. This event is open to an expanded press pool.
In the afternoon, Secretary Geithner will meet with President Obama, Vice President Biden, Secretary Clinton, Vice Premier Wang and State Councilor Dai in the Oval Office to discuss the outcomes of the Strategic and Economic Dialogue. The President and Vice President will then greet the expanded delegations in the Roosevelt Room. These events are closed press.
Later, Secretary Geithner, Secretary Clinton, Vice Premier Wang and State Councilor Dai will make closing statements at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. Following that, Secretary Geithner and Secretary Clinton will host a U.S. press conference.Immediately after, Vice Premier Wang and State Councilor Dai will host a China press conference. Due to extremely limited space, credentials for these events have already been allocated. Access will be pooled for television.
In the evening, Secretary Geithner will deliver a speech before the U.S.-China Business Council and National Committee on U.S.-China Relations Dinner. A Strategic & Economic Dialogue press credential will not grant access to this event. Press must have previously registered separately for this event.
