Some Homeowners simply canÂ’t afford to save energy, Hamilton Furnace & AC aims to change that

(EstateNewsWire.com, June 05, 2013 ) Hamilton, Canada -- Everybody wants to help the environment but unfortunately, not everyone can afford to. New high-efficiency heating and cooling appliances may be more energy-efficient and eco-friendly but they also cost thousands of dollars. A new rent-to-own program from Hamilton, Ontario-based company Hamilton Furnace & AC aims to allow anyone - even those with bad credit - to benefit from new energy-saving furnaces, air conditioners, and water heaters without the high initial costs. The energy efficiency of furnaces, air conditioners and water heaters has increased dramatically over the past decades, with most new models running at 95% efficiency and higher. The U.S. Department of Energy reports that upgrading from an older model gas furnace to a new model can save up to 1.5 tons of CO2 emissions annually and hundreds of dollars in yearly fuel costs. For many cash-strapped homeowners however, the cost of new appliances can be prohibitively expensive; a new furnace for instance typically costs between $2500-3000 including installation.

Hamilton Furnace & AC hopes its new rent-to-own program will allow a greater number of homeowners to install high-efficiency appliances, so they too can benefit from reduced heating and electricity bills. Unlike ordinary financing options, no credit checks or down payments are required, making the program accessible to virtually anyone who owns a home. Simon Alexander, the company’s founder says that people with lower credit scores are often declined financing, leaving upfront payment as the only option. “Unfortunately, many homeowners simply can’t afford to pay thousands of dollars for - say, a new furnace and are stuck paying higher bills.”

Hamilton Furnace & AC’s new program pitches “no upfront costs” as a primary feature, with free installation and a ‘smart’ thermostat included in the flat monthly price. The program also covers the cost of any repairs or replacement should anything go wrong with the unit, a feature designed to protect homeowners against unexpected costs. The program can also be an attractive option when an old furnace, air conditioner or water heater breaks down and the homeowner is faced with repairing an aging unit or replacing it. Alexander notes that most people already rent their water heater, and that this rent-to-own program simply extends that convenience to furnaces and air conditioners.
